Building
The present church, which became a Cathedral in 1914, dates back to the 15th and early 16th
centuries. The exterior walls are of flint rubble, inter-mixed with blocks of building stone and
brick, whilst inside the honey-coloured limestone floor gives a sense of space and light. The
colourful Nave ceiling was rebuilt early in the 19th century, whilst Peter Ball's fine sculpture of
Christ in Glory, above the Chancel arch, is a present century addition. The fine peal of 13 bells
date from the 12 cast in 1912 by the John Warner Foundry on a fabricated steel frame, and a 13th
bell added in 1947.
