Building
Cathedral built & consecrated in 1092, damaged by fire in 1141 and an earthquake in 1185 after which it was reconstructed. Mistakes occurred and the tower collapsed in 1237. The Cathedral was enlarged and between 1307 & 1311 the tower was raised to its present height. The Western towers were heightened between 1370 & 1400. All three towers had spires until 1549 when the central one blew down and the Cathedral has been little changed since that time.
