Building
The Cathedral, built of Caen and local Barnack limestones, is Romanesque in its ground plan, giving it an unusually long Aisle. The Cloisters, second only in size to Salisbury, date from the 13th & 15th centuries, whilst its 315 ft tall spire was added between 1742 & 1501. The West Front was remodelled in the 18th & 19th centuries. Other significant features are the Seven Sacraments font, dating from 1480 in St Luke's Chapel and the 1106 roof bosses, especially those of the Nave, which are unparalleled and illustrate scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
