Choir
The Cathedral Choir consists of 18 boy Choristers, aged 8-13, who board at the Choir School, and 6 Lay Clerks. They sing 8 services a week, 3 on Sunday and including daily Evensong, apart from Wednesday. The girls choir of 22 girl Choristers, aged 8-13, from local schools, who sing 1 or 2 services on Sunday with the Lay Clerks.

Building
Only the Crypt of St Wilfrid's original 7th century church remains as a tiny chapel beneath the present building. The exceptional Early English West Front of this 12th century building, with its twin towers, dates from 1220. It became a Cathedral in 1836.
