Building
The college was founded in 1714 with a benefaction from Sir Thomas Cookes, when 18th century
buildings were designed, though some medieval cottages remained from the previous monastic college.
On its single site may be seen the work of 4 major architects - Hawksmoor, Wyatt, Keene and Burges.
The Chapel building is entirely 18th century, the work of Clarke, Keene and Wyatt. However between
1864 & 1866 the interior was redecorated by William Burges, when every surface from the floor
to the ceiling was decorated using all available artistic media.
