Choir
The choir consists of 24 boys & 30, girls drawn from a variety of local schools, and 12
Choirmen & Choral Scholars. The boys and girls sing on a fortnightly pattern and the choir
tours abroad regularly and has recorded several CDs.

1836 John Smith, 1868 Wm Hill, 1914 Norman & Beard
The Klais organ of 1997 stands on the Jackson screen in the North Transept built for the Norman & Beard organ of 1914. It has mechanical action and half the pipes were new and half from the previous organs.

Building
The Abbey was founded in 1499 on the site of the Anglo-Saxon church of 757 and the Norman cathedral
of 1090. It was ruined after the dissolution of the monasteries but restored and supported ever
since by those who worship in it as their Parish Church.
