Building
The Abbey was founded in 1087 and consecrated in 1121. It has very fine Norman features especially the Romanesque tower and embellishments were made to the long Nave roof and the Chancel in the 14th century in the Decorated style. In 1540 the Abbey was sold to the parishioners. Much restoration by George Gilbert Scott occured between 1875-79.
