Choir
The Schola Cantorum, established by Cardinal Basil Hulme, consists of about 27 boys between the
ages of 8 & 18, from St Martins and the College. The choir tours regularly and has made a
number of CD recordings. The Schola Puellarum was formed in 2004 as a 30 strong girls' choir, which
sings the Thursday service. The choir has just released its first CD.

Building
Ampleforth dates back to 1802, when Lady Anne Fairfax of Gilling Castle built a lodge for Father
Anselm Bolton. This lodge was handed over to his brethen to be their new monastery. A school was
opened in 1803, in 1900 the monastic houses became independent Abbeys and the school also began to
expand.
