Building
The present cathedral was designed by Archibald Simpson and opened in 1817. It had galleries all
round and a small apse at the East End. G E Street designed a Choir and Chancel which were added in
1880. Work on extending and beautifying the building, to the design of Ninian Comper, began in 1938
and was completed after the War.
