General Labels

Record labels have been grouped into two categories; those that specialise in recordings of Cathedral, Collegeiate and Church choirs and those labels who have a large selection of choir recordings.

Amphion   :  Specialising in transcriptions of older recordings and The Better Land series of Boy Sopranos, both sacred and secular

Argo :  The welcome return of this legendary label, available in downloads only

Avie : A small selection of Cathedral and Collegiate choirs

Chandos  : A small selection of Organ music and Cathedral choirs

Decca   :  No new recordings but many re-issues, often at budget prices, of Decca and Argo recordings, particularly of Westminster Abbey, King's College and St John's College, Cambridge

Delphian   :  A small selection from St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh; Tewkesbury Abbey and St George's Chapel, Windsor

EMI & Virgin : King's College choir record exclusively for EMI.   Current recordings and many re-issues at budget price

Guild : A medium sized selection from various choirs, particularly St Paul's Cathedral

Harmonia Mundi : A small selection of new recordings from Magdalen College, Oxford

Hyperion : Of all the general labels, Hyperion have by far the largest selection of recordings from Cathedral, Collegiate and Royal Peculiar choirs. Westminster Cathedral record almost exclusively for Hyperion, with Westminster Abbey having recently joined their catalgoue.

King's College Cambridge launched their own record label in October 2012 with a double CD recording of the 2010 Nine Lessons and Carols & commissioned carols from the years 2007 - 2011. Metronome : A small selection from Cathedral and Collegiate Choirs

Naxos : This famous budget label has some absolute gems in its catalogue. Eleven CDs from St John's College, Cambridge under Christopher Robinson. Bach's St John's Passion and Handel's Messiah, with all the solos sung by solo choristers, from New College, Oxford, together with a few recordings from other choirs. These exceptional value CDs are not to be missed.

Nimbus : A large selection mainly from Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford but with some from St John's College, Cambridge
