Director of Choral Music and Organist

Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum of Dean Close Preparatory School

On the appointment of Benjamin Nicholas to a senior post at Merton College, Oxford, the School seeks an energetic and visionary musician to take charge of the boy choristers and lay clerks of Schola Cantorum and Senior School Chapel and Chamber choirs.

The choirs have recorded, broadcast and toured extensively in recent years and the quality of singing has received critical acclaim.  The senior school has provided a steady flow of choral scholars and organists to Oxford and Cambridge colleges and its organ scholars have moved on to excellent posts.

Schola Cantorum is the internationally renowned choir which sings weekday evensong in Tewkesbury Abbey and the Appointee will have full responsbility for recruiting and developing the boy trebles and lay clerks.

This is a unique opportunity to play a key part in the music of both the School and the Abbey, to be active as a director and an organist and to build on a strong base of excellence.
